Ezekiel Elliott finding pay dirt down the stretch for the Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott may have got off to a slow start this season (four touchdowns in the Cowboys’s first nine games). However since missing week eight and week 10 with a sprained right knee, Elliott has been an instrumental force for a Cowboys squad who still have a mathematical chance to win the NFC East.

On Thursday, Elliott had a touchdown in the ninth straight game he has played in as Dallas defeated the Tennessee Titans 27-13. Elliott’s touchdown was for one yard, and was the only touchdown in the first half. He put the Cowboys up 7-0 with four minutes and 36 seconds left in the opening frame. Elliott had 19 rushes for 37 yards. He now has 12 rushing touchdowns, which is the most he has had since his rookie season of 2016, when Elliott had 15 rushing touchdowns.

It looks like Elliott will not reach 1000 yards this season. With one game left for the Cowboys in the 2022 National Football League regular season schedule, Elliott has 866 rushing yards, which means he needs 134 rushing yards next week in Washington to get to the 1000-yard mark for the fourth time in his NFL career. Elliott led the NFL with 1631 rushing yards in 2016, and then had a NFL-high 1434 rushing yards in 2018, 1357 rushing yards in 2019, and 1002 rushing yards in 2021.

The Cowboys are at 12 wins and four losses. In order for them to win the NFC East, they will need to beat Washington, and hope the Eagles lose to the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants. The Eagles, who won their first eight games, are at 13 wins and two losses.
