The Philadelphia Eagles have signed linebacker Eric Wilson of Redford, Michigan to a one-year contract worth $3.25 million according to Glenn Erby of USA Today on Wednesday. The Eagles will become Wilson’s second National Football League team after he spent the last four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

Last season with Minnesota, Wilson played in 16 games and had 15 starts. He had a personal best season with career-highs in combined tackles (122), solo tackles (62), assisted tackles (60), quarterback hits (nine), tackles for a loss (eight), fumble recoveries (two), interceptions (three), and pass deflections (eight). Wilson also had three sacks and one forced fumble.

Wilson’s three NFL interceptions were tied for the league lead among linebackers in 2020. He was tied with Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks of Clovis, California, Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Joe Schobert of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Tyus Bowser of Tyler, Texas. Wilson, Kendricks, Schobert, and Bowser were tied for 16th place among all defensive players in interceptions. Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard of Houston, TX led all players with 10 interceptions last season.

The three interceptions for Wilson in 2020 were for 23 yards. The most notable interception came on November 8, as Wilson had an interception for 16 yards in a 34-20 Vikings win over the Detroit Lions.

For his career, Wilson has had 234 combined tackles (134 solo tackles, and 100 assisted tackles), 18 tackles for a loss, 19 quarterback hits, three interceptions for 23 yards. eight pass deflections, eight sacks, three fumble recoveries for seven yards, and one forced fumble. Undrafted, Wilson played his university football at Cincinnati and Northwestern.

Wilson is one of three defensive players Philadelphia has signed in free agency. They also acquired safeties Anthony Harris of Richmond, Virginia, and Andrew Adams of Fayetteville, Georgia. Like Wilson, Harris came to the Eagles from the Vikings, while Adams came to Philadelphia from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In the Eagles offseason so far, their biggest decision has come at quarterback. They decided to trade Carson Wentz to Indianapolis, and sign Joe Flacco as a backup quarterback to Jalen Hurts.
