According to Alain Poupart of Sports Illustrated on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins have signed defensive end Calais Campbell of Denver, Colorado. The financial terms and length of the contract has not yet been disclosed. The Dolphins are the fifth National Football League team Campbell has played for. He was previously with the Arizona Cardinals from 2008 to 2016, the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2017 to 2019, the Baltimore Ravens from 2020 to 2022, and the Atlanta Falcons in 2023.
Last season in Atlanta, Campbell had 56 combined tackles (32 solo tackles and 24 assisted tackles), 17 quarterback hits, 10 tackles for a loss, one safety, 6.5 sacks, one pass deflection, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The forced fumble came in a 16-13 Falcons win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 22.
Six times in Campbell’s career he has been selected to the Pro Bowl. He was honoured while with the Cardinals in 2014 and 2015, the Jaguars for three straight seasons from 2017 to 2019, and with the Ravens in 2020.
Twice in Campbell’s career, he reached double figures in sacks in a season. He had 14.5 sacks with the Jaguars in 2017, and 10.5 sacks with the Jaguars in 2018. When Campbell had 14.5 sacks in 2017, he was second in the National Football League that season in sacks. The sack leader was Cardinals defensive end Chandler Jones of Rochester, New York, who had 17 sacks.
In 244 NFL games, Campbell has 865 combined tackles (616 solo tackles and 249 assisted tackles), 175 tackles for a loss, 254 quarterback hits, three safeties, 105.5 sacks, three interceptions for 24 yards, 58 pass deflections, 17 forced fumbles, 13 fumble recoveries for 73 yards, and three touchdowns on fumble recoveries. Campbell’s 105.5 sacks are 48th in NFL history.
