Devin Booker out one month with a groin strain

The Phoenix Suns received a major blow on Wednesday when it was announced that their star shooting guard Devin Booker of Grand Rapids, Michigan would miss at least a month with a groin strain. Booker, who will be re-evaluated in four weeks, suffered the injury on Christmas Day, in the Suns’s 128-125 overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Booker is averaging 27.1 points per game, 5.6 assists per game, and 4.6 rebounds per game. He has a field goal percentage of .477, a three-point percentage of .370, and a free throw percentage of .850. Booker has reached the half-century mark in two games already this season. He had 58 points in a 118-114 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on December 17, and 51 points in a  132-113 win over the Chicago Bulls on November 30.

With Booker out of the lineup in two games since the injury, Phoenix has won one game and lost one game. They beat the Memphis Grizzlies 125-108 on Tuesday, before being upset 127-102 to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.

In the Suns’s win over the Grizzlies eight different Suns reached double digits in points. Guard Duane Washington Jr. of Frankfurt, Germany led the Suns with a career-high 26 points. Washington Jr.’s uncle is five-time NBA Finals champion Derek Fisher of Little Rock, Arkansas. Fisher won the NBA Finals with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009 and 2010.

Phoenix is currently at 20 wins and 16 losses. That is the fifth best record in the Western Conference. The Suns trail the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans, who each have a record of 22 wins and 12 losses, the Memphis Grizzlies at 20 wins and 13 losses, and the Los Angeles Clippers at 21 wins and 15 losses.
