Day 7 Olympic Preview– Aussies in action today 7/30
July 30, 2021

On Thursday we had one Aussie win a gold medal in a first ever Olympic event, and another Aussie set an Olympic record. What does Day 7 have in store?
Rowing– Women’s Eights Final @ 11:05 AM & Men’s Eights Final @ 11:25 AM
Both of Australian eights boats are in the Olympic final, however its appears a medal could be challenging because both of Australia’s boats will be in an outer lane. In the women’s eights final, Australia is in lane one, and in the men’s eights final, Australia is in lane six. The women’s eights won bronze at the 2018 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and the silver at the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Ottensheim, Austria. The men’s eights won silver at the 2018 World Rowing Championships.
Swimming– Women’s 100 metre freestyle final @ 11:59 AM
Only two Australians qualified for the finals on Friday, and it just so happens they are swimming next to each other in the same event–the women’s 100 metre freestyle. There you have Opening Ceremonies flag bearer Cate Campbell of Brisbane in lane three and Emma McKeon of Wollongong in lane four. Campbell won the gold medal in the event in 2013 at the World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona.
Quarterfinals– Women’s rugby sevens (starting at 6:30 PM) & Women’s Football (Australia vs. Great Britain at 7 PM)
In women’s rugby sevens, Australia will be looking to defend their Olympic gold medal from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. Before their quarterfinal matchup, they have a first place showdown in Group C against their swimming rival, the United States (11:30 a.m.). On Thursday, Australia pounded Japan 48-0, and beat China 26-10. In their win over Japan, Emma Tonegato of Wollongong notched a hat trick. The quarterfinals are on at 6:30 PM, 7PM, 7:30 PM, and 8PM.
