Cowboys sign 40-year-old offensive lineman Jason Peters

According to spotrac.com on Monday, the Dallas Cowboys signed offensive tackle Jason Peters of Bowie County, Texas to a one-year contract worth $358,200. The Cowboys become the fourth National Football League franchise Peters has played for following five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and one season with the Chicago Bears.
In 2021 with the Bears, Peters had one solo tackle in 15 games. It came in a 38-3 Bears loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 24, 2021.
Peters has played in 228 NFL games since the 2004 regular season. He has had six fumble recoveries for seven yards, and nine combined tackles (five solo tackles and four assisted tackles).
Three of Peters’s six fumble recoveries have come in wins during the month of November. They came on November 21, 2004 in a 37-17 Bills win over the St. Louis Rams, on November 11, 2007 in a 13-10 Bills win over the Miami Dolphins, and on November 1, 2009 in a 40-17 Eagles win over the New York Giants.
Eight of Peters’s nine tackles came with the Bills. There he had four solo tackles and four assisted tackles during his first two NFL seasons in 2004 and 2005. In 2004 during Peters’s rookie season, he had one solo tackle and one assisted tackle in a 37-17 Bills win over the Rams on November 21, 2004. Peters also had a solo tackle in a 38-9 Bills win over the Seattle Seahawks on November 28, 2004 and an assisted tackle in a 33-17 Bills win over the Cincinnati Bengals on December 19, 2004.

In 2005 during Peters’s second NFL season, he had a solo tackle in a 22-7 Bills win over the Houston Texans on September 11, 2005, and an assisted tackle in a 20-14 Bills win over the Dolphins on October 9. In the Bills win over the Texans, Peters also had a one-yard touchdown catch for his only touchdown catch of his career.
For nine straight seasons (2007 and 2008 with the Bills) and (2009 to 2016 with the Eagles), Peters was selected to the Pro Bowl. He also won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2018.
Peters is the second oldest active player in the NFL. The only older player is Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady at age 45.
