According to Myles Simmons of NBC Sports on Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders made an intriguing NFC East division trade. The Eagles acquired wide receiver Jahan Dotson of  Newark, New Jersey from the Washington Commanders with a fifth round pick in the 2025 National Football League Draft. The Commanders received a third round pick and two seventh round picks from the Eagles in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dotson spent the last two seasons with the Commanders. In 2023, he had 49 catches for 518 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Dotson’s most notable game ironically came against the Eagles. On October 29, he had eight catches for 108 receiving yards and one touchdown in a 38-31 Commanders loss to the Eagles.
There was a lot of intrigue with Dotson’s ability heading into his NFL career. That is because he was the Commanders’s first round pick, 16th overall, in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, Dotson has not really lived up to the hype to date. In his rookie season, Dotson only had 35 catches for 523 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches.
This was the second trade in the last week involving two teams in the National Football Conference East Division. On August 14, the Giants traded offensive lineman Jordan Phillips of Towanda, Kansas to the Dallas Cowboys with a seventh round pick in the 2026 National Football League Draft for a sixth round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Heading into the 2024 NFL season, the Cowboys and Eagles are considered the frontrunners in the NFC East, but there are some serious question marks in Dallas at the moment. The gap has closed between them and the Giants and Commanders.
Washington meanwhile, has named Terry McLaurin of Indianapolis, Indiana their number one receiver. It seemed that head coach Dan Quinn was not as high on Dotson’s skillset as McLaurin’s.
