Chris Paul signs 1-year deal with San Antonio
July 1, 2024

12-time All-Star Chris Paul has agreed to a one-year, $11 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, per multiple reports.
The 39-year-old was waived by Golden State – who acquired him a year ago in a swap that sent disgruntled guard Jordan Poole to Washington – making him an unrestricted free agent.
Last year, the veteran point guard accepted a substitute role for the first time in decorated career and averaged 9.2 ppg and 6.8 apg in 26.4 mpg.
Paul reportedly spoke with long-time Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and was sold on the franchise’s culture as well as the role he can play in elevating reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama.
The Spurs also added UConn guard Stephon Castle with the fourth pick in last week’s draft.
San Antonio are coming off a year in which they went 22-60 to finish with the second worst record in the Western Conference and will hope that Paul’s addition can lead to more success.
