The Boston Celtics have not shown the most consistency as of late. However, on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, they delivered the biggest comeback of the season. In a 118-110 Celtics win over the Philadelphia 76ers, the Celtics were once down 90-64 with two minutes and 56 seconds left in the third quarter before outscoring the 76ers 54-20 in the last 14 minutes and 56 seconds.
The 26 point comeback was tied for the biggest comeback this season. On November 4, the Los Angeles Clippers were down 40-14 before winning 113-104.
This was the third biggest comeback in Celtics history. The biggest comeback came on April 30, 2021. Boston was once down by 32 points (69-37) before beating the San Antonio Spurs 143-140 in overtime. The comeback was overshadowed by the fact that the Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri tied the Celtics franchise record by scoring 60 points in a game. The second biggest comeback came on January 26, 2012. The Celtics were down 27 points to the Orlando Magic (52-25) before winning 91-83.
On Sunday, Tatum was the Celtics leading scorer again as he had a double-double (35 points and 11 assists). Reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown of Marietta, Georgia (21 points and 10 rebounds), center Kristaps Porzingis of Liepaja, Latvia had 18 points, shooting guard Derrick White of Parker, Colorado had 17 points, and power forward Sam Hauser of Green Bay, Wisconsin had 12 points off the bench.
With the win, the Celtics improve to a record of 35 wins and 15 losses. The 76ers dropped to a record of 19 wins and 29 losses. Boston is in second place in the Eastern Conference, and are only behind the Cleveland Cavaliers.
