Celine Boutier wins 2023 Evian Masters
August 1, 2023

Celine Boutier of Clamart, France has won the fourth major in women’s golf in 2023. She posted a score of -14 and beat her nearest competitor and 2022 Evian Masters champion, Canadian Brooke Henderson, by six strokes.
Boutier was simply the class of the field this week. She was the second round leader at -7, and the third round leader at -11. In the fourth and final round, Boutier had four birdies and one bogey. She birdied the first, second, fifth, and 15th holes, and bogeyed the 13th hole.
This was the first time ever that a French woman won the Evian Masters. Boutier becomes the third French woman to win a major title in women’s golf. Catherine Lacoste of Paris, France  won the 1967 United States Women’s Open at the Cascades Course in Hot Springs, Virginia. Then Patricia Meunier-Lebouc of Dijon, France won the 2003 Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage, California.
On the men’s side, there has only been one French major champion. Arnaud Massy of Biarritz, France won the 1907 British Open at Royal Liverpool. Ironically, that was the same golf course used for the 2023 British Open, which was won by Brian Harman of the United States. Massy beat J.H. Taylor of Great Britain by two strokes. Massy had great success at the British Open over the years as he had 10 top-10 finishes from 1902 to 1921.
This is Boutier’s fourth LPGA Tour victory. She previously won the 2019 ISPS Handa Vic Open in Barwon Heads, Australia, the 2021 Shoprite LPGA Classic in Galloway, New Jersey, and the 2023 LPGA Drive On Championship in Gold Canyon, Arizona.
