Celine Boutier maintains lead at 2023 Evian Masters
July 30, 2023
Three rounds are now complete at the 2023 Evian Masters in France, and Celine Boutier of Clamart, France remains the leader. Boutier was the round two leader at -7, and has extended that lead to -11.
On Saturday, Boutier shot a score of four-under-par. She had five birdies and one bogey. Her birdies came on the second, fifth, seventh, ninth and 15th holes, and bogey came on the 12th hole. At the Evian Masters to date, Boutier has had a birdie on 12 of the 18 holes, and has collected two birdies in the tournament so far on the first, seventh and ninth holes.
There is only one player in striking distance of Boutier at this time. That is Japan’s Nasa Hataoka, who is at -8. Hataoka just finished in fourth place at the last major, the 2023 United States Women’s Open.
Two French women have won major golf titles in the past. Catherine Lacoste of Paris, France  won the 1967 United States Women’s Open at the Cascades Course in Hot Springs, Virginia. Then Patricia Meunier-Lebouc of Dijon, France won the 2003 Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage, California.
Lacoste’s major title was historic. She became the second non-American to win the United States Women’s Open following Fay Crocker of Montevideo, Uruguay, who won the 1955 United States Women’s Open in Wichita, Kansas. Lacoste is also the only amateur to win the United States Women’s Open, and won the tournament despite posting a score of +10.
Meunier-Lebouc meanwhile won two decades ago by shooting a four round score of -7. Annika Sorenstam of Bro, Sweden, who had 10 LPGA titles, was in second place at -6.
