Celine Boutier leads after second round of 2023 Evian Masters
July 29, 2023

We are now at the midway point of the fourth major of the 2023 women’s golf calendar, and Celine Boutier of Clamart, France leads at the 2023 Evian Masters at -7. In fact, no French woman has ever won the Evian Masters in the past. That includes not only when the tournament has been a major since 2013, but also since the tournament joined the Ladies European Tour in 1994.
Boutier had four birdies and two bogeys in round two. She birdied the first, 12th, 13th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the fifth and 11th holes. In the first round, Boutier was five-under-par. She had six birdies and one bogey. Boutier birdied the first, seventh, ninth, 11th, 14th, and 16th holes, and bogeyed the 17th hole.
In the past, Boutier has won three LPGA events. She was victorious at the 2019 ISPS Handa Vic Open in Barwon Heads, Australia, the 2021 Shoprite LPGA Classic in Galloway, New Jersey, and the 2023 LPGA Drive On Championship in Gold Canyon, Arizona. When Boutier won on the LPGA Tour earlier this year in Arizona, she posted a score of -20 and beat Georgia Hall of England in a playoff.
Meanwhile, there are six golfers in contention who are trying to catch Boutier. In second place at -6 are Thailand’s Patty Tavatanakit and Japan’s Yuka Saso. Both of these players are major champions in the past. Tavatanakit won the 2021 ANA Inspiration and Saso, who at the time representing the Philippines, won the 2021 United States Women’s Open.
In fourth place at -5 are American Alison Lee, Mexico’s Gaby Lopez and Japan’s Nasa Hataoka. In seventh place at -4 is South Korea’s Hae-Ran Ryu.
