According to Plataforma Media on Thursday, world number two Carlos Alcaraz of Spain will be missing Wimbledon too because of a wrist injury. Alcaraz announced his withdrawal from Roland Garros on April 24, after injuring his wrist at the 2026 Barcelona Open.

The fact that Alcaraz is not competing at the French Open or Wimbledon makes Italian Jannik Sinner the heavy favourite to win these two grand slam events. Sinner reached the 2025 French Open final (where he lost to Alcaraz), and then won Wimbledon last year (beat Alcaraz in the final). Alcaraz is a two-time Wimbledon champion, as she won in 2023 and 2024.

Alcaraz has a record of 22 wins and three losses in 2026. He won the Australian Open, and Doha. The three tennis players to have beaten Alcaraz in 2026 are Daniil Medvedev of Russia (6-3, 7-6) in the semifinals of Indian Wells, Sebastian Korda of the United States (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) in the third round of Miami, and Jannik Sinner of Italy (7-6, 6-3), in the final of Monte Carlo.

On Saturday, French tennis fans received heartbreak with the news that Arthur Fils would miss the French Open with an undisclosed injury. Fils, who was seeded 17th, won the Barcelona Open last month. Fils was to face three-time grand slam champion Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in the first round.

With Fils out, Arthur Rinderknech is the highest ranked French men’s player at number 22. Rinderknech is one of three seeded French men’s players in the draw. The other two are Corentin Moutet (seeeded 30th) and Ugo Humbert (seeded 32nd). There are no French women seeded in the singles draw at Roland Garros.
