Cardinals trade Isaiah Simmons and Josh Jones
August 27, 2023

According to Brenden Deeg of The Score on Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals had two trades on Thursday. First, they traded linebacker Isaiah Simmons of Omaha, Nebraska to the New York Giants for a seventh round pick in the 2024 National Football League draft. Second, they traded offensive tackle Josh Jones of Richmond, Texas to the Houston Texans with a seventh round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for a fifth round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft according to Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports.
Simmons is joining his second NFL organization. He previously played the last three seasons with the Cardinals. In 2022, Simmons had 99 combined tackles (68 solo tackles and 31 assisted tackles), five tackles for a loss, four quarterback hits, two interceptions for 61 yards, one pick six, seven pass deflections, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and four sacks. Simmons’s pick six was for 56 yards and came in a 42-34 Cardinals win over the New Orleans Saints on October 20. In Simmons’s career, he has 258 combined tackles (181 solo tackles and 77 assisted tackles), 13 tackles for a loss, 11 quarterback hits, four interceptions for 73 yards, one pick six, 16 pass deflections, seven forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 7.5 sacks.
Jones has also played the last three seasons in Arizona. The University of Houston product is actually quite versatile as he can play tackle and right guard.
The Cardinals should struggle this season after having a surprisingly disastrous 2022 season. The San Francisco 49ers are the clear favourites to win the NFC West Division after reaching the NFC Championship a year ago.
