The St. Louis Cardinals have signed Ramon Urias of Magdalena de Kino, Mexico to a $2 million minimum contract according to the Associated Press on Monday. The terms of the deal are the following. Urias will earn $1.5 million in 2026. Then there is an option component of the contract. If the mutual option component is agreed upon for the 2027 Major League Baseball regular season, Urias will earn an additional $4 million. If the mutual option component is not agreed to, Urias will earn an additional $500,000.
Urias is joining his third Major League Baseball team. He previously played six seasons with the Baltimore Orioles from 2020 to 2025, and 35 games with the Houston Astros this past season.
In 2025 with the Astros and Orioles, Urias batted .241 with 11 home runs and 44 runs batted in. During 112 games, 352 at bats and 391 plate appearances, he scored 33 runs and had 85 hits, 17 doubles, three stolen bases, 27 walks, 135 total bases, and 10 sacrifice flies, with an on base percentage of .292 and a slugging percentage of .384.
Urias’s 10 sacrifice flies were the fourth most in the Major Leagues in 2025. He was only behind Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong of Sherman Oaks, California (12), New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells of Scottsdale, Arizona (11), and Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (10).
Urias has also been known throughout his career for his defense. In 2022, he won the American League Golden Glove Award at the hot corner. Urias had a sizzling field percentage of .974. He only committed nine errors in 341 chances.
Ramon Urias is the older brother of Luis Urias. A second baseman and third baseman, Luis Urias played this past year for the Athletics. The signing of Ramon Urias by the Cardinals comes after they lost pitchers John King and Miles Mikolas in free agency this month.
