Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt out for the year after a shoulder injury
October 29, 2021
According to Stephen Douglas of the Big Lead on Thursday, Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt of Pewaukee, Wisconsin is out for the rest of the 2021 National Football League season after injuring his shoulder on Sunday in a game against the team Watt previously played for, the Houston Texans. The injury will require surgery. The Cardinals did however come through with a dominant 31-5 win over the Texans to remain undefeated at seven wins and zero losses.
Watt, who is 32 years old, played a decade with the Texans from 2011 to 2020. He was selected to the Pro Bowl on five occasions in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018.
This will be however the fourth time in six seasons that Watt has had a significant injury. In 2016 he missed 13 games with a back injury. In 2017, Watt missed 11 games with a broken leg, and in 2019, he missed nine games with a torn pectoral muscle, before returning to the Texans for the playoffs.

So far this season, Watt has 16 combined tackles (10 solo tackles and six assisted tackles), 10 quarterback hits, five tackles for a loss, one sack, one forced fumble and two pass deflections in seven games with Arizona. The sack and forced fumble came in a 37-14 Cardinals win over the Cleveland Browns on October 17, 2021.
Even though the Cardinals will be without Watt on Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers, Green Bay will have two significant players out of their lineup too. That is because wide receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard are on the coronavirus list. The Packers have won their last six games and are at 6-1 on the season.
