Canterbury Best Selection & Value Play 23/7
July 22, 2025

Midweek Sydney racing heads back to Canterbury on Wednesday. Our analyst likes a Ryan & Alexiou filly returning on the back of a 4th in the Canberra Guineas and a Waller 3yo coming off an unlucky 2nd over the same track/distance as the value play.Â
Best Selection: R6 – La Roga
La Roja appeals here 1st up on the back of a 0.2L 2nd in a Hawkesbury trial. She was a 0.8L maiden winner at Warwick Farm over 1100m when last 1st up and was a great run when 1.2L 4th in the Listed Canberra Guineas to round out the prep.
Value Selection: R3 -Maquisa
Im keen to stick with Maquisa after she had no luck running onto the heels of a tiring leader for the majority of the straight 2nd up at Canterbury. When she finally came across heels at the 50m it was too late and she finished 0.7L 2nd. They ran 0.22s quicker than the older horses in the BM72 later in the day so I expect the form to hold up from that race. The risk is that she is still a maiden taking on a field of horses that have won before but gets in well with 56.5kg.
