Brett Favre (PSUMark, 2006)
According to David K. Li, Janhvi Bhojwani and Randi Richardson of NBC News on Tuesday, former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has stated he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Favre made the announcement about his health while testifying to the American Congress for his possible misuse of taxpayer money.
Favre is being questioned for being rewarded $1.1 million from the State of Mississippi in 2017 and 2018 for public speeches he agreed to give but did not given according to Ken Dilanian and Laura Strickler of NBC News. He is also accused of using his political connections (has golfed with Donald Trump in the past) to direct money to Southern Mississippi University (the university Favre attended from 1987 to 1990), and help build a $5 million volleyball complex. Favre’s daughter was on the University of Southern Mississippi women’s volleyball team.
While as a National Football League player, Favre played 20 seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, Packers, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings. An 11-time Pro Bowler, Favre led the NFL in most completions in a single season twice (347 in 1998 and 372 in 2005 with the Packers), passing yards twice (4413 in 1995 and 4212 in 1998), and touchdown passes four times (38 in 1995, 39 in 1996, 35 in 1997, and 32 in 2023). Favre also is a Hall of Famer, and guided the Packers to a Super Bowl title (1997). The Packers defeated the New England Patriots 35-21.
Favre is the second notable retired NFL quarterback within the last year to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. In January, former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and liver failure.
