The Atlanta Braves have signed two notable free agents according to Adam Morris of SB Nation on Thursday. They came to terms with outfielder Mike Yastrzemski of Andover, Massachusetts, and closer Robert Suarez of Bolivar, Venezuela. Yastrzemski signed a two-year contract worth $23 million, and Suarez signed a three-year deal worth $45 million.
Yastrzemski is joining his third Major League Baseball franchise after six complete seasons with the San Francisco Giants and last year where he spent time with the Giants and Kansas City Royals. In 2025, he batted .233 with 17 home runs and 46 runs batted in. During 146 games, 477 at bats and 558 plate appearances, he scored 68 runs, and had 28 doubles, one triple, seven stolen bases, 192 total bases, two sacrifice bunts, five sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .333, and a slugging percentage of .403. The triple came in a 3-2 Giants win over the Washington Nationals on May 25.
Suarez is joining his second Major League Baseball team. Last year he led the National League with 40 saves. During 70 games, 69 2/3 innings pitched, Suarez had a record of four wins and six losses with an earned run average of 2.97. He gave up 47 hits, 23 earned runs, six home runs and 16 walks, to go along with 75 strikeouts, and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.90.
Suarez’s 40 saves were the second most in the Majors. Kansas City Royals closer Carlos Estevez of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic had a MLB high 42 saves.
In 2025, Suarez was a National League All-Star for the second straight year. In 2024, he had a record of nine wins, three losses, 36 saves, and an earned run average of 2.77 while with the Padres.
