The Washington Commanders have signed two players during training camp. They are wide receiver Stefon Diggs of Gaithersburg, Maryland and cornerback Fabian Moreau of Fort Lauderdale, Florida according to Dustin Baker of vikesnow.com on Wednesday.
Diggs has signed a one-year contract worth $12 million according to John Keim and Seth Walter of ESPN. The length of the contract or financial details of Moreau’s contract have not yet been disclosed.
The Commanders were in need of another cornerback. That is because cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon of Oak Park, California abruptly retired at the age of 31 on Tuesday.
Diggs is joining his fifth NFL team after five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings from 2015 to 2019, four seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2020 to 2023, and one season each with the Houston Texans (2024) and New England Patriots (2025).
With the Bills, Diggs was selected to the Pro Bowl for four straight seasons from 2020 to 2023. In 2020, he led the NFL with 127 receptions and 1535 receiving yards. This past season with the Patriots, Diggs had 85 catches for 1013 receiving yards and four touchdown catches.
Diggs believes he can have an immediate impact with the Commanders. Earlier this summer he stated “there is no WR2 better than me.” The top Commanders wide receiver going into the season is Terry McLaurin of Indianapolis, Indiana. However you could make the argument that Diggs might actually be a WR1.
Moreau is returning to Washington after playing his first four seasons there from 2017 to 2020. With the Redskins/Washington Football Team, Moreau had 125 combined tackles (84 solo tackles and 41 assisted tackles), one tackle for a loss, one quarterback hit, six interceptions for 32 yards, 14 pass deflections and three forced fumbles in 60 games.
Since leaving the Washington Football Team in 2020, Moreau has played with four other NFL franchises. He was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, the New York Giants in 2022, the Denver Broncos in 2023, and Minnesota Vikings in 2024 and 2025. This past season with the Vikings, Moreau had 17 combined tackles (13 solo tackles and four assisted tackles) and two pass deflections.
