The Philadelphia 76ers have signed forward LeBron James of Akron, Ohio in a deal that has rocked the National Basketball Association. According to ESPN, the contract is two years and worth $8 million.
There had been immense speculation where James was going to go. Among the teams that had significant interest in recent weeks were the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers–two teams that James has played for in the past. In fact, the Heat stated on their social media account this week they had scheduled a press conference to introduce James, then stated it was a mistake.
What James brings to the 76ers is unprecedented leadership and poise. It has also been reported this will be “LeBron’s last decision.” He will be retiring after the two years of the contract at age 43.
The 76ers are James’s fourth NBA franchise after 11 seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and four seasons with the Miami Heat. It is fair to say James is the G.O.A,T. That is what happens when you are the league’s all-time leading scorer with 43440 points.
One must realize that age 41, James is still an elite basketball player right now and has the capability of helping the 76ers win a championship. This past season, he averaged 20.9 points per game, 7.2 assists per game, 6.1 rebounds per game and 1.2 steals per game. James had a field goal percentage of .515, three point percentage of .317 and a free throw percentage of .737. Now he joins a 76ers team that has a legitimate Big Four in Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and now James.
