Herbie Farnworth doesn’t plan on speaking to any interested NRL parties until after the 2026 finals and then the World Cup is finished, though he is leaning towards staying in Redcliffe if he can.
The 26-year-old Englishman is widely regarded as one of the very best centres in the modern game, and will attract many suitors once he hits free agency in early November.

But he isn’t thinking about all that just yet. He has already shot down several early links with other teams beyond the Dolphins, and has stayed very firm on his stance — no negotiating with anyone until the premiership season is over, and he’s wrapped up obligations with England in the Cup.
“That is just the way I roll,” Farnworth said after a reporter brought up his last-minute signing with Redcliffe last time out. “It felt right… so I decided.”
The centre added he largely avoids “overthinking” when he can, and wants to play rugby league more than sit down at negotiating tables. “I don’t really put too much attention on my contracts. I feel like my job is to play footy. If I am doing that right, contracts take care of themselves,” he explained.
“I let my manager do all the work, which is good,” the strike centre added.
Right now, his manager is just setting the stage for those post-World Cup conversations, with any early Roosters links largely just codswallop, Herbie says.
“All my energy and focus is on the finals, and when the time is right we’ll talk,” Farnworth said, adding that he does really want to stay in Redcliffe. “I have told the Dolphins I want to put it off until after we are done playing, hopefully in the grand final… and even better if it’s after the World Cup final.”
“I love the boys here. We have got a great crew. Woolfy has had a great year, and all the boys look up to him. It’s all about really high standards; you have to toe the line.”
From Sydney’s side, they believe that they have a lead in the Farnworth race, while the Dolphins are similarly placed. The cashed-up St George Illawarra Dragons and Parramatta Eels are both keen to get involved, too.
Nothing just yet, though — the Dolphins play the Warriors at 4PM on Saturday afternoon.
