The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s Rosehill meeting. Our analyst is keen to follow an impressive Ryan & Alexiou colt and a G1 Metrop winner that returned in outstanding order over an unsuitable trip.

Skyhook

Skyhook was ultra impressive, recording a 0.5L victory in the Listed Rosebud over 1100m. There were are few things against that suggest he should be competitive in the stronger 3yo races moving forward. He was required to carry 60.5kg as a penalty for his G3 Pago Pago win as a 2yo, and this meant he was giving away 6-7kg to the likes of Grand Prairie and Pallaton. He stepped half a stride slow, and this resulted in him settling at the rear of an even tempo. The small field allowed him to only be 1-2L away on the turn, and from there he was just too strong. I like that he has been able to add another string to his bow with his settling pattern having led when he won the Pago Pago.

He will get weight upside if he heads to the G3 San Domenico or G3 Up and Coming next and looks capable of mixing it with the top 3yos.

Land Legend

The 2024 G1 Metropolitan looks to be going as well as ever, beginning his 3rd Aus prep after an eye-catching 1.4L 3rd over 1400m at Rosehill on Saturday. He flopped out of the gates, settling last and was still a mile off them at the rear of the big field on the turn. He made steady progress until he finally made his way across heels and saw clear running to rocket home the final 100m. I’m looking forward to seeing him over 2000m to 2400m 3rd and 4th up.
