The replays and sectionals have been reviewed from Saturday’s G1 Surround/Verry Elleegant meeting at Randwick. Our analyst has black booked a mare that looks destined for G1 glory this prep and an unlucky Maher 4yo that looks to have a winner in him soon.

Aeliana

The Waller mare was nearly as big a story as Autumn Glow going 10/10 with an outstanding 0.4L 2nd in the G1 Verry Elleegant Stakes. She showed tactical versatility settling 3rd on the rail behind Lindermann. Zac Lloyd took her to the inside of Lindermann on straightening giving her a 1L break on Autumn Glow and Sir Delius at the 400m. She never looked likely to hold off her stablemate but fought on gallantly putting a 3.4L gap on Sir Delius back in 3rd, who will be her main danger in the G1 Ranvet in 3 weeks time. Her 33.3s final 600m was top notch and was only 0.03s slower than Autumn Glow with a 11.11s final 200m. She should be close to peaking for the Ranvet 3rd up where Sir Delius will only be 2nd up. She will be hard to beat.

Axius

It was a horror watch for those that followed in on Axius in the G3 Liverpool City Cup. Clark landed him midfield on the rail and when they hit the top of the straight multiple runs closed up on him when trying to get to the outside. When he finally saw clear running at the 200m he rocketed home to finish 1.3L 3rd. It’s hard to be certain he would’ve been the winner but without doubt should’ve been in the finish. He’s never been tested over anything further than 1300m in his 10-start career but does look ready to step out over further. The G2 Ajax over 1500m at Rosehill in a fortnight could be a great test to see if he could progress towards a Doncaster.
