Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 23/8
August 24, 2025

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s Randwick meeting where the spring stars were back in full flight. Our analyst has picked out a Baker 3yo that looks set to perform well stepping out to 1200-1400m and a star mare that returned with an amazing win over an unsuitable trip.
Within the Law
The Baker filly was outstanding closing off strongly to finish 0.8L 2nd behind Savvy Hallie in the G2 Silver Shadow. She jumped clean and settled a little more forward than usual from Gate 2. Impressive on-speed winner Savvy Hallie was a little too sharp but her final 400m of 24.28s was the 2nd fastest of the race and she even seemed to find another gear the final 200m recording 12.44s was the fastest of the race. I can’t wait to see her over 1400-1600m.Â
Autumn Glow
The star Waller mare kept her 5 start undefeated record intact returning in the G3 Toy Show Quality. She settled behind the speed and it appeared she was going to be out sprinted by Hi Dubai at the top of the straight. Once she began to wind through her gears her class prevailed for a 0.5L win with big gaps back through the field. Her 11.52s final 200m was outstanding and suggests she’s going to be better stepping out in trip. There are numerous options over the spring. She could target the G1 Epsom where she will be well weighted, chase the money in the Golden Eagle and Invitation or even be kept fresh for the Everest.Â
