Our analyst has reviewed a massive day of racing at Randwick and has black booked a trio of runners that look to have wins in them to close out the spring carnival, including big runs out of the Everest and King Charles.

Idle Flyer

The Matthew Smith mare was outstanding recording a 1.3L victory in the G3 Angst Stakes recording a slick time. She settled just worse than midfield and found herself 3-wide without cover on the back of a hot tempo. When the pace slackened from the 800m-600m she working into a nice position on straightening. She produced a terrific turn of foot to turn the tables on Perfumist to record a 1.3L win with Polymnia another 1.7L back in 3rd.

The hot tempo allowed her to run 0.69s quicker than Ceolfwulf in the G1 King Charles, albeit over 9m less distance and carrying 3kg less than WFA but still impressive. They could possibly target the Golden Eagle in a fortnight’s time, which would be a big step up in class.

Tempted

All honours to the winner Ka Ying Rising, who could possibly be better next year with the experience and potentially another trial to prepare. Aside from him, Tempted looks to be another potential superstar on the rise. The Godolphin filly jumped cleanly from Gate 1 and had a dream run working up the fence. She never looked like challenging the winner but the way she exploded the final 200m making the likes of Joliestar and Lady Shenandoah look average to claim 1.1L 2nd in the world’s richest turf race as a filly shows she is going to be something special.

From what we saw on Saturday and the fact she won the Golden Rose shows she is better over 1400m. There are limited options for that left at G1 level but we may see her line up in the G1 Champions Sprint on the final day of the Flemington carnival after Godolphin have declared they won’t line her up against their colts in the stallion making G1.

Pericles

The Godolphin gelding is flying under new trainer Bjorn Baker with a win in the G2 Tramway and 3rd in the G1 Epsom prior to his 2.1L 4th in the G1 King Charles, which was much better than it will read in the form guide. He settled midfield and loomed up beautifully down the outside and looked the winner for much of the straight before Ceolwulf exploded the final 100m. He faded the final 50m and the mile does have to be a question mark now with a 5: 0-1-1 record. He still should have another big run in him for the spring.
