Bill Haas tests positive for coronavirus

According to Rex Hoggard of The Golf Channel on Wednesday, Bill Haas of Charlotte, North Carolina has tested positive for coronavirus. Haas was in fact one of three PGA Tour golfers to test positive leading up to the RSM Classic in Saint Simons Island, Georgia this week. He was joined by American Kramer Hickok of Austin, Texas, and Sweden’s Henrik Norlander. As a result, all three golfers will not compete this week.

All three golfers did not qualify for the Masters last weekend. Haas, who is 38 years old, was at one time ranked 12th in the world back in 2012, but recent struggles have seen his ranking drop all the way down to 576th. The six-time PGA Tour winner is best known for winning the 2011 Tour Championship in Atlanta. That year Haas defeated Hunter Mahan in a playoff. Also during Haas’ golf career he has represented the United States at three Presidents Cups, but zero Ryder Cups.

Bill Haas is also the son of former PGA Tour player Jay Haas. The St. Louis native won nine times himself on the PGA Tour.

Norlander is the 154th ranked player in the world, and the fourth-ranked player from Sweden. He is behind 2016 British Open champion Henrik Stenson (61st), Alex Noren (95th), and Marcus Kinhult (112th). On Tuesday, Norlander reported having minor symptoms before receiving his positive test.

Hickok is 343rd in the world. A 28-year-old native of Austin, Texas, Hickok is known for his success in Canada, where he was the 2017 PGA Tour Canada player of the year. That year he won The Players Cup in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the Ontario Championship in Barrie.

There have been 433, 732 total cases of coronavirus in the state of Georgia, with 9065 deaths. There have been 152,017 active cases and 272, 650 people have recovered.
