Best Of The Best – Our 3 Best Bets For This Saturday 19/12

A dominant win from Athiri last week allowed us to turn over a 2 unit profit at Randwick. We have now turned a profit 3 weeks straight and 8 out of the last 12 weeks that The Plunge has been operating.

Now we look to this week’s Randwick meeting where a pair of stable mates have caught our eye and we also analyse a match-up between two 4 year olds that are hitting the prime of their careers.

  • NSW Service Results: +83.8 Units (Since 14/12/19)
  • VIC Service Results: +22.39 Units (Since 20/06/2020)
  • Best Bets Results: +24.6 Units (Since 25/07/2020)

Randwick Race 4 – Gone Bye

Gone Bye’s 2nd at Rosehill last start was full of merit.  The Mark Newnham trained gelding settled on the speed and fought hard all the way up the straight to finish a neck behind Significance, who subsequently won last week, and half a length ahead of Accountability, who he meets half a kilo worse off at the weights here.

The big tick for Gone Bye is his form on wet tracks. 5: 1-2-0 on soft and

1:1-0-0 on the heavy. The speed maps bodes well for him here, where Sherry will be positive from the inside gate and either stalk Vadiyann or take up the running himself. We know he’s going to be tough up the straight and if anything gets past him it’s going to have to be ploughing through the wet surface late.

Tip: Gone Bye 1 Unit Win @ $4.8  With TopSport

Randwick Race 5 – Fulmina

Sticking with the same trainer/owner/jockey combination here with Fulmina, who found her way into a lot a blackbooks when she settled at the rear and charged home to run into 3rd first-up at Rosehill 3 weeks ago.

Fulmina jumped well on that day but apprentice jockey Tom Sherry couldn’t slot in anywhere midfield from the wide draw and was forced to settle the mare in last place. It should be a different story today from barrier 4, where she should be able to settle midfield and if she can produce a similar finish will be too strong for them late. Her wet track record is second to none in this race. Soft 1:1-0-0 and heavy 4:2-1-0. The bet of the day.

Tip: Fulmina 3 Units Win @ $2.7 With TopSport

Randwick Race 8 – Edison

A couple of 4 yos on the rise square off for a second time here but Edison’s great win last week, the way the race looks to map out and a fitness edge give Edison the slight edge over Hilo here.

Both these horses met at this track on the heavy back in October. Hilo grinded out a tough win to defeat Edison by 0.3L. Hilo also meets Edison 2kg better at the weights, which may be a concern for some. The big difference this time around is Edison was first-up that day and has since put in 2 great runs and should be at peak fitness here.

Hilo is returning from a 5 week freshen-up and may be found wanting late in what looks to be a tough run 1400m race in the wet. Edison loves the distance 2:2-0-0 whilst it does appear to be a genuine query for Hilo 4:0-1-1.

Tip: Edison 2 Units Win @ $3.3  With TopSport
