Best Of The Best : Our 3 Best Bets For Saturday 5th September

The Spring Carnival is well and truly heating up with an Everest preview set to get us drooling in the concorde & we’ve found 4 horses we’re very keen to back.

Randwick Race 1 – Athiri

  • Trainer: J Cummings
  • Jockey: J McDonald
  • Barrier: 1
  • Odds: $2.9 With TopSport

Looking to the Cummings/McDonald combination to get the day off to a positive start. Athiri was sensational first up over a 1000m when McDonald failed to overcome the outside gate after jumping well but ultimately being placed 5 wide towards the tail of the field.

Despite covering the extra ground, she charged through the line to only be beaten a nose by Fanciful Dream, who she’s meeting a kilo and a half better at the weights. The extra 100m should suit and I can’t see J Mac being any worse than one off the fence just worse than midfield.

Tip: Athiri 3 Units @ $2.9

Randwick Race 3 – Archanna

  • Trainer: C Waller
  • Jockey: J McDonald
  • Barrier: 8
  • Odds: $6  With TopSport

In a race where half the field have settled in the first two in their previous start, we can assume that there will be plenty of pace and will be wise to look for a backmarker. Archanna looks great value after settling at the rear and storming home to miss by a neck last start at Kensington.

She ran the best 600m-200m sectional, which suggests she may have peaked on her run first up. Expecting this Waller-trained mare to be better for the run and should be in the finish.

Tip: Archanna 2 Units @6

Randwick Race 8 – Reloaded & Greysful Glamour

The Tramway looks like a tough race on paper with the majority of starters either resuming or second up after disappointing runs first up. Reloaded is a 4yo on the up that finished 4th in the Randwick Guineas last preparation.

He gets in well at the weights with only 55kg and McDonald gave him a great wrap in an interview earlier in the week saying he has come back a lot stronger this time in. The money has confirmed this opening at $11 and being backed into $7 already.

I can’t let Greysful Glamour go around at $20 without having something on each-way. This 5 yo mare is in her prime and picked up some black type first up last preparation in Melbourne. This doesn’t look to be too much tougher and she should take up the running in a race where there doesn’t look to be a whole lot of tempo.

Tip: Reloaded 2 units @ $7 & Greysful Glamour 1 unit each-way @ $20/5
