Best Of The Best: Our 3 Best Bets For Saturday 31st Of October

Last weekend brought to an end a 3-week winning streak after we finished 3 units in a rear due largely to a disappointing effort from Probabeel in the Cox Plate. We won’t hate on the Kiwi mare too much as she has been good to us over the Sydney Carnival and has been a major contributor to our 5 units of profit over the last month.

The Sydney Carnival heads out west to Rosehill Gardens for the $7.5 million Golden Eagle. It’s a challenging day with huge fields and many chances in the feature races but we’ll look to capitalise on the added value in the markets.

Rosehill Race 4 – Quintessa

Like most of New South Wales, Rosehill has received a lot of rain this week. The track is currently a Heavy 8 and with more rain expected over night and throughout Saturday, it is safe to assume the track is going to be quite wet. After a few races we might get a guide on some track bias and I believe come this stage of the day that runners forward of midfield may be favoured.

Unlike her rivals in the early markets, Quintessa will be handy in the run. Both Kirwan’s Lane and Archanna are promising horses but may have a lot of work to do in the straight. Quintessa should be stronger than noted leader Navy Cross and represents great value with the $6 thrown up in early markets.

Rosehill Race 7 – Haut Brion Her

With lots of Everest form the Yes Yes Yes Stakes is packed with early speed. Haut Brion Her should be able to settle just behind it all and if she can get some cover she should be able to finish strong. Gytrash is clearly the horse to beat but the $2.8 on offer for a horse untried at 1300m seems skinny.

Haut Brion Her is a proven winner from 1200m to 1400m and is 2 from 2 in the wet.  She meets Gytrash 1kg better at the weights from when she finished just 0.4L behind him in the Everest and looks a solid bet here at the price.

Tip: 2 units win Haut Brion Her @ $5.5 With TopSport

Rosehill Race 8 – Funstar

Funstar is the best horse in admittedly looks wide-open Golden Eagle but after analysing all the favoured runners the Waller trained mare seems to have the edge on the rest of her 4 year-old rivals. She was gallant in the Epsom after being run down late finishing 2nd to Probabeel and was again run down late by Wild Ruler in the Theo Mark Stakes the start before that.

She excels in the wet (5:3-2) and won at her only start over 1500m. Barrier 22 is a slight concern but on a chopped up track late in the day being 3 wide just off the speed may be more of an advantage than disadvantage.

Tip: 2 units win Funstar @ $5.5  With TopSport
