Best Of The Best: Our 3 Best Bets For Saturday 17th Of October

After finishing up 3 units in front last week, we eagerly anticipate a huge day of racing tomorrow headlined by the Everest at Randwick and also the Caufield Cup down in Melbourne. An even field of sprinters will ping the gates in the world’s richest race on turf. We’ll do our best to find the winner there and highlight why a Sydney horse will be very hard to beat in the Caufield Cup.

Randwick Race 3 – Pancho

Pancho closed nicely late last start when finishing 1L behind the fancied Laure Me In. He meets that horse 6 ½ kg better at the weights after Cejay Graham claims her 3kg. In a race where they won’t go overly quick, the apprentice should be able to settle just forward of midfield from the inside gate and do minimal work in the run.

Although Pancho hasn’t been outstanding in any of his 4 starts this campaign, he has been far from disgraced and with 49kg he represents great value at $9.

Randwick Race 6 – Deprive

Deprive had been a horse out of form over the Autumn but there is enough evidence to suggest he is back. He rattled home strongly to finish 3rd behind Everest fancies Libertini and Classique Legend. After that performance, he was thought to have been a late hopeful for an Everest slot but instead takes his place in the consolation race beforehand.

He won this race last year, closely edging out Champagne Cuddles and Brutal and there doesn’t appear to be that sort of class in this year’s edition. If we get the best Deprive he should be winning.

Race 7 – Classique Legend

The grey has been outstanding in 2 runs in this preparation. First up he sat back in the field with cover and exploded up the Randwick straight to win by a length over 1100m. Second up he was forced to sit 3 wide without cover after drawing gate 7 of 8 and couldn’t produce quite the same sprint and finished 2nd behind Libertini. He’s drawn perfectly with barrier 6 which will allow McEvoy to slot in behind something just worse than midfield. Normally quite reserved, the big race specialist jockey has been extremely confident about the gelding’s chances during media interviews this week.

Nature Strip is hard to catch. He was extremely disappointing when favourite in a race where there were no other front runners and ran to suit. A post vet assessment showed mucas in his lungs post race which could be a reason for the poor performance. He wont get an easy time of it in front here.

Eduardo has been extremely consistent since arriving at Joesph Pride’s stables this year and couldn’t of been more impressive braining them in a trial win by 7L just last week.

Race 9 – Master Of Wine

Sydney has sent two extremely talented up and coming stayers down for this year’s cups in Verry Elleegant and Master of Wine. The Waller-trained Verry Elleegant is the deserved favourite but this could be the day Master of Wine flags himself as a genuine staying star.

He finished less than a length behind the favourite at Flemington last start and meets that mare 3kg better here. What made last start so impressive was the fact that he was held up when starting his run. If C Williams can avoid traffic from barrier 6 he should be storming home late.

Tip: Master of Wine 2 units win @ $8 With TopSport
