Best Of The Best : Our 3 Best Bets For Saturday 15th August

Our new best bets analyst is looking to hit the ground running with 3 bets at Saturday’s Randwick meeting including a runner at $13!

Randwick Race 1 – Vitesse

  • Trainer: C Waller
  • Jockey: B Avdulla
  • Barrier: 4
  • Price: $5

Looking to get off to a good start on the Randwick card here with the C Waller-trained Vitesse.

In what looks to be a fairly weak BM 78 Fillies and Mares race, another Waller runner in Dancing Gidget is clearly the best horse in the race but may struggle to carry the 59kg in wet conditions, hence the drift in early markets.

Whilst Vitesse only brings fair midweek form to this race, the lack of speed on paper should play into her favour and the 55.5kg on her back could make her tough to run down. Unlike her stablemate, she has been a firmer and those who took the $7 on Thursday may be doing well come race day.

Bet: 2 Units Win

Randwick Race 4 – Torun

  • Trainer: J Pride
  • Jockey: B Avdulla
  • Barrier: 4
  • Price: $3.2

It’s not often a 1000m Hawkesbury Maiden would be the form to reference on a Saturday at Randwick but this Medalia D’Oro colt looks like it could be something special.

It put its’ rivals to the sword by 4L eased down in its’ debut and it is rare you see Joseph Pride throw young horses in the deep end if they are not up to it.

Fasika comes to mind when she raced through the City grades early in her career. Torun’s breeding and first career start suggest the wet track will hold no issues and should have the gate speed to be in the first half of this small field.

Bet: 4 Units Win

Randwick Race 7 – Holyfield

  • Trainer: Maher & Eustace
  • Jockey: T Berry
  • Barrier: 9
  • Price: $14

Holyfield resumes in the G3 Up and Coming Stakes for 3YO’s on the back of a 2nd in a Group and Listed barrier trial at Rosehill and Berry retains the ride here.

Last prep he won the G3 Baillieu on a soft track before failing over 1600m in the G1 Champagne Stakes. He looks to be well placed here if he is to go on to bigger and better things this prep. Whilst North Pacific does look the horse to beat, $2.25 offers no value compared to the $13 on offer for Holyfield.

The 9 barrier may look like a hindrance on paper, come this time of the day the outside may be the place to be. The inside draw for the favourite it also something to consider if the inside is chopping up.

Bet: 1 Unit EW
