Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 11th September

Tricky midweek meeting to navigate this one. The conditions are superb, with the track returning to a good 4 with a number of horses going to appreciate getting back on-top of the ground. Rail out 13m.

Race 4 – 2:38PM TABTOUCH – WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

3. Ginger Flyer – 2. Beat The Bell – 4. Justhandy – 1. Speedy Miss

Ginger Flyer

Think it’s just a really nice set-up here for Ginger Flyer. Ran a career peak when fresh over the 1400m, leading and really toughing it out before being gunned down very late by a rock-hard fit, in-form Smashing. She’ll have taken plenty out of that run, sticks at the 1400m, gets a very good senior jockey back in the saddle and finds a race shape where Parnham should be able to roll to the top, lead this on his ear and dictate terms. Given the main danger for me is going to be last, or near enough to it, gee she’s going to be awfully hard to beat.

2.5 Units WIN

Beat The Bell

Beat The Bell being the danger for me here, I actually think the mile back to the 1400m suits. The Brave Dream form reads very nicely for a race like this considering how close she got to that runner late and she is going to have to do it from likely settling last, with Ginger Flyer up in front bowling along at her own leisure, but if things fall her way in the run she can definitely win.

Race 5 – 3:20PM ASCEND SALES TROPHIES HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Devine Beast – 8. Come Magic – 5. My Blueboy – 1. Don’s Legacy

Was really keen to be with Devine Beast here, who was nothing short of huge last start behind Sir Snugalot, which on paper may not sound like the strongest form reference, but the track being a soft 7 has dampened my enthusiasm. Drew widest, snagged back to last, and although it’s not mentioned in the stewards report, she’s genuinely not got out once they straightened until passing the 250m before genuinely exploding to run a monstrous sub 11 sec final 200m.
There’s always going top be some risk involved backing a horse to win who settles well-back over the 1000m, but the Luke Fernie camp has their tails up, and this mare looks like she’s back to her form from last prep off the back of that last run. The genuinely wet track hurts her chances I feel.

Come Magic was a horse I wanted to follow out off her fresh effort after a long lay-off. Led, gave a great kick and was only gunned down late by a really nice upcoming sprinter in Wilchino. 3 weeks between runs keeps some freshness in her legs, Pike sticks and I can’t see anything going crazy to take Pike on for the front here. Definitely a huge chance, especially considering the track rating and not surprised to see her favourite.

Race 6 – 3:55PM CROWN TOWERS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Giant Leap – 6. Glamour Packed – 3. Karijini Aurora – 8. Recharger

Race 7 – 4:30PM HAHN SUPERDRY – FARNLEY STAKES (1400 METRES)

7. Notorious One – 5. Tellem We’re Comin – 6. Media Baron – 4. Western Temple

Notorious One

Notorious One is a horse that I think is going places, and I do think that barring he plays up on race-day like he has a habit of doing at times, he will be winning this race. CJP doesn’t have to get right back to last here and can probably settle 5th, find a back to take him into the race and if he levels up to them early in the straight, he’s just going past these I feel.

3 Units WIN

Race 8 – 5:05PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. Avalon Bay – 2. Temptacion – 7. Diablerie – 3. Downforce

Race 9 – 5:35PM SEACORP HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Mystical View – 6. Power of St George – 10. Bumper Humper – 5. Our Danni

Staking Plan

Race 4 Ginger Flyer 2.5 Units WIN/Beat The Bell 1 Unit WIN

Race 7 Notorious One 3 Units WIN

6.5 Units staked.
