Australian golf legend Greg Norman tests positive for coronavirus
December 30, 2020

According to Thomson Rueters, Australian golf legend Greg Norman of Mount Isa has tested positive for coronavirus. The 65-year-old, who currently lives in Jupiter, Florida, received a positive diagnosis on Sunday after experiencing a fever and muscle pain. Pictures on social media show that Norman was hospitalized.
Norman was competing at the PNC Championship Father/Son Challenge in Orlando, Florida, over a week ago, and had tested negative for coronavirus at the time. He was playing alongside his son, Greg Norman Jr., and the two finished tied for ninth place. However a few days after the tournament, it was reported by Greg Hardwig of the Naples Daily News, that Greg Norman Jr. and his fiancee Michelle tested positive for the coronavirus disease.
The state of Florida has been hammered by coronavirus, and its governor Ron DeSantis was harshly criticized months ago for recognizing professional wrestling as an essential service. There have been 1,280,177 cases of coronavirus in Florida, and 21, 309 deaths. Only the states of California and Texas have had more cases than Florida, while Florida is behind New York, California, and Texas in total deaths.

Greg Norman is a two-time major champion, with both of his titles coming at the British Open. In 1986 at Turnberry in Scotland, Norman became the third Australian to win the British Open (after Peter Thomson and Kel Nagle), as he shot even par to beat Gordon Brand of England by five strokes. Then seven years later in 1993 at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England, Norman beat Nick Faldo of England by two strokes when he shot a four-round score of -13.
Norman becomes the second high-profile Australian men’s professional golfer to test positive for coronavirus. In October, former Masters champion Adam Scott tested positive for the disease.
