Alex de Minaur of Sydney, Australia has won his 12th ATP title of his career. On Sunday, de Minaur defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the 2026 Rotterdam Open.
In the final, de Minaur only had one double fault, while Auger-Aliassime had three double faults. De Minaur also broke Auger-Aliassime three times in five opportunities. A key statistic was winning percentage on the second serve. De Minaur won 69% of his second serve points, while Auger-Aliassime only won 35% of his second serve points.
Like Karolina Muchova, who won the Qatar Open on the women’s side this past weekend, de Minaur only beat one seeded opponent throughout the Rotterdam Open. That happened to be Auger-Aliassime in the final. At the Rotterdam Open, de Minaur was the number one seed, and Auger-Aliassime was ranked second.
de Minaur got revenge against Auger-Aliassime. At the United States Open in 2025, Auger-Aliassime eliminated de Minaur 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, 7-6 in the quarterfinals.
Even though de Minaur had won 11 ATP events in the past, this was his first title on an indoor hardcourt. de Minaur was 0-4 in ATP finals on an indoor hardcourt in the past. Two of those losses came in Rotterdam. Jannik Sinner of Italy beat de Minaur 7-5, 6-4 in the 2024 Rotterdam Open final, and Carlos Alcaraz of Spain bears de Minaur 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the 2025 Rotterdam Open final.
Any way you look at it, this was a special weekend in Canadian tennis. Auger-Aliassime was one of two Canadians to reach the final. The other was Victoria Mboko, who lost to Muchova in the Qatar Open final.
