ADELAIDE NEXT ASSIGNMENT FOR EMERGING STAR
April 13, 2026
BRILLIANT three-year-old colt Oliveanotherday confirmed a trip to Adelaide and an elevation to Group company with another impressive effort to win over 1200m against his own age group at Caulfield on Saturday.
His Warrnambool-based trainer, Tom Dabernig, said Oliveanotherday will contest the G2 Tobin Bronze Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on April 25.
Dabernig did not dismiss the possibility of him contesting the G1 The Goodwood (1200m) if he ran well in the Tobin Bronze Stakes against his own age group.
It was only last year that the Price and Kent Junior-trained Reserve Bank completed that double.
“We don’t want to go too far into the winter, but three-year-olds have a good record in the Goodwood, so we’ll see.”
Oliveanotherday has won four of his six starts and this campaign, he is three from three with a combined winning total of ten lengths.
Dabernig said he knew from the outset that Oliveanotherday had above average ability and that was why they knocked back offers believed to be close to $1 million for the Nicconi gelding.
“He’s a horse that from early doors showed us plenty. He took a little time, being a Nicconi, to mature, but his prep he’s been faultless,” Dabernig said.
It was the first time Oliveanotherday, who was ridden by Harry Coffey, had encountered a wet track and Dabernig’s suspicion that he would handle was confirmed.
“We always thought he liked the softer ground, and he travelled up so easily and put them away comfortably, so we couldn’t have hoped for anything better.”
Another three-year-old gelding who will be chasing Adelaide riches is Matt Cumani’s Single Choice, who won the Galilee Series Final (2400m) with the South Australian Derby as his aim.
Single Choice settled handy to the speed and hit the front with 400m to go and did not look like losing.
