‘A lot more to achieve’: Teddy’s resurgence earns him Roosters extension

James Tedesco will very likely see out his NRL career in Bondi, with the Sydney Roosters adding another year to their resurgent veteran fullback’s playing contract that will now see him playing in tricolours until 2027.

The 32-year-old was signed through to 2026 already, but now has at least two years left.

It’s certainly no surprise, considering how dominant the 2025 Dally M medalist was through the last campaign. In recent seasons, there had been some question marks about how long Tedesco would stay at an elite level in rugby league, but he waved all that away with one of the best individual seasons any Rooster had dished up for some time.

His well-deserved extension means he’ll now be right at the heart of the Roosters’ next premiership tilt. He already won two NRL rings in Bondi in 2018 and 2019, but has had to watch the Panthers dynasty haul in titles in recent seasons.

There’d be a feeling in Sydney that if “Teddy” packed it in, their premiership window may well close.

No worries though: They have at least another two years with the superstar leading the club as captain and number one, and Tedesco has a feeling that he and the club where he’s already played 186 games have “a lot more to achieve together. I’m excited for what’s still to come with this group. I’m committed to doing everything I can to help us get there.”

“The Roosters have played a huge role in my career and my life,” he continued. “Working with Robbo has pushed me to become a better player and person, and I’m grateful for the belief he’s always shown in me.

“I’m incredibly proud to… continue leading a group of players who mean so much to me.”
