To be honest, the first round was always going to be a tough one. Unexpected results but also some great chances missed from a number of teams. We fight on into Matchweek 2.

Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC – Saturday, Jan 2, 5:05 pm (AEDT)

It is the first game of the campaign for both teams, and whilst this is a home game for the Wellington Phoenix, it is in Wollongong which suits Sydney. The reigning champions will look to start strong, I back Sydney here as they will look the fresher out of the two sides even with star striker Adam Le Fondre.

Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar – Saturday, Jan 2, 7:10 pm (AEDT)

This could end up being a tricky game, I like Melbourne Victory though. The Roar played quite well against Melbourne City in their season opener so that may help with momentum but I have to go with a home win, especially with a decent campaign from Victory in the recent Asian Champions League.

Macarthur FC vs Central Coast Mariners – Sunday, Jan 3, 4:05 pm (AEDT)

Both teams came out of Matchweek 1 with a 1-0 victory, and Macarthur impressed on their A-League debut so it comes as no surprise they are favorites for this clash. With a quick turnaround, an extra day’s rest for Macarthur should help, they should see off the Mariners on Sunday.

Adelaide United vs Melbourne City – Sunday, Jan 3, 6:05 pm (AEDT)

Melbourne City would be the most logical option here, but the draw looks appealing for this matchup. Adelaide had a goalless draw to start their A-League campaign against Western United and City somewhat struggled at times in their 1-0 victory against the Roar. This is a difficult game to pick.
