In the last of a 32-part series, we are featuring all National Football League teams with a prediction of where each team will finish within their division, key off-season acquisitions and their top fantasy stars. Here are the Washington Commanders.
Key Off Season Acquisitions
The most notable new Commander is quarterback Jayden Daniels of San Bernardino, California. Daniels was selected second overall in the NFL Draft out of Louisiana State, and won a Heisman Trophy in 2023.
The Commanders acquired five notable players in the offseason (four via free agency and one via trade), and hired a new coach. The free agents were defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. of Houston Texas, linebacker Frankie Luvu of Tafuna, American Samoa, center Tyler Biadasz of Amherst, Wisconsin, and Nick Allegretti of Frankfort, Illinois. The player via trade was kicker Cade York of McKinney, Texas.
Amstrong signed a three-year deal worth $33 million with the Commanders. He previously played the last six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. In 2023, he had 38 combined tackles (20 solo tackles and 18 combined tackles), seven tackles for a loss, 12 quarterback hits, one pass deflection, and 7.5 sacks. The pass deflection came in a 41-35 Cowboys win over the Seattle Seahawks on November 30.
Luvu signed a three-year deal worth $31 million with the Commanders on March 14. He previously played three seasons each with the New York Jets (2018 to 2020) and the Carolina Panthers (2021 to 2023). In 2023, Luvu had 125 combined tackles (66 solo tackles and 59 assisted tackles), 11 quarterback hits, 10 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, five pass deflections and two forced fumbles.
Biadasz signed a three year deal worth $29.25 million with the Commanders. He has played the last four years with the Dallas Cowboys and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2022.
Allegretti signed a three-year deal worth $16 million with the Commanders. He has won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs since joining them in 2019.
York was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Commanders for a seventh round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He made 24 of 32 field goals and 35 of 37 converts with the Browns in 2022.
The new head coach is Dan Quinn of Morristown, New Jersey. He was previously the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015 to 2020, and was the defensive coordinator of the Cowboys the last three years.
