2024 New York Jets Projected Finish, Key Signings and Fantasy Stars

In the 25th of a 32-part series, we are featuring all National Football League teams with a prediction of where each team will finish within their division, key off-season acquisitions and their top fantasy stars. Here are the New York Jets.

Key Off Season Acquisitions

The Jets signed five key free agents from other rosters in the offseason and made two key trades. New York signed quarterback Tyrod Taylor, guard John Simpson, wide receiver Mike Williams, defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, and tackle Tyron Smith. The Jets also acquired linebacker Hasson Reddick and offensive tackle Morgan Moses via a trade.

Taylor is a quarterback from Hampton, Virginia. He signed a two-year deal worth $12 million. Taylor is joining his seventh NFL franchise after playing for the Baltimore Ravens (2011 to 2014), the Buffalo Bills (2015 to 2017), the Cleveland Browns (2018), Los Angeles Chargers (2019 and 2020), Houston Texans (2021), and New York Giants (2022 and 2013). He completed 116 passes in 180 attempts for 1341 passing yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions with the Giants in 2023. Taylor also had 197 rushing yards. He was selected to the Pro Bowl with the Bills in 2015.

Simpson of North Charleston, South Carolina signed a two-year deal worth $12 million. He played three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders from 2020 to 2022, and one season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, and has five fumble recoveries for 13 yards in 52 games. The fumble recovery for eight yards this past season for the Ravens came in a 20-10 Ravens win over the Los Angeles Chargers on November 26.

Williams from Holly Hill, South Carolina is joining the Jets after seven seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. He signed a one-year contract worth up to $15 million. In 2019 while with the Chargers, Williams led the NFL in yards per reception with 20.4. In three games in 2023, Williams had 19 catches for 249 yards and one touchdown. Williams’s touchdown was for 49 yards from fellow wide receiver Keenan Allen of Greensboro, North Carolina and came in a 28-24 Chargers win over the Minnesota Vikings on September 24. However, in the same game Williams had a season ending ACL injury.

Kinlaw of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago has played the last four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, before signing a one-year deal worth $7.25 million with the Jets. In 2023, Kinlaw had 25 combined tackles (13 solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles), four tackles for a loss, six quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks and three pass deflections.

Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowler from Moreno Valley, California signed a one-year contract worth $6.5 million with the Jets. He has played the last 13 years (from 2011 to 2023) with the Cowboys and had two fumble recoveries and one solo tackle.

The Jets acquired two-time Pro Bowler outside linebacker Haason Reddick of Camden, New Jersey from the Eagles. In return, the Eagles received a conditional third round draft pick in the 2026 National Football League draft. In 2023, Reddick had 38 combined tackles (29 solo tackles and nine assisted tackles), 13 tackles for a loss, 23 quarterback hits, and one pass deflection. The pass deflection came in a 28-23 Eagles win over the Dallas Cowboys on November 5.

In another transaction, the Jets acquired tackle Morgan Moses of Richmond, Virginia from the Baltimore Ravens. In addition to Moses, the Jets received a fourth round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for a fourth and a sixth round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Moses has played the last decade in the NFL (seven seasons in Washington, one season with the New York Jets in 2021 and the last two seasons with the Ravens).

Fantasy Stars

Garrett Wilson of Chicago, Illinois is ranked sixth among wide receivers. Last year he had 95 catches for 1042 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Breece Hall of Omaha, Nebraska is ranked second among running backs. Last year he had 223 rushes for 994 rushing yards and five touchdowns, alongside 76 catches for 591 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Greg Zuerlein of Lincoln, Nebraska is ranked sixth among kickers. Last year he made 35 of 38 field goals and 15 of 16 converts.

The Jets have the fourth best defense. Expect the Jets to have a better defense this season, as long as the offensive and defensive players are healthy.

Projected Finish

New York was supposed to be much better than their 7-10 record of last season. Unfortunately, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers got hurt early and the Jets season went down hill from there. If Rodgers stays healthy, the Jets have a strong enough supporting cast to make the playoffs, and reach second place in the AFC East.
