2022 NRL Round 14 Preview: Our Selections

Round 14 looks interesting with teams announcing players to back up from origin but we’ve found a handful of picks for you to follow.

2022 Season Premium Tipping Results:

GOLD COAST TITANS VS SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS – SATURDAY JUNE 11, 3:00PM, CBUS SUPER STADIUM

Gold Coast have lost seven of their past eight games to slump to 15th on the ladder with only the Bulldogs below them, while Souths sit eighth with a 6-6 record and have star fullback Latrell Mitchell on the verge of a comeback.

Inconsistent South Sydney continues to cling to eighth spot with a 6-6 record. They have won back-to-back just once, in Rounds 5 and 6 against the Dragons and Bulldogs, and are aiming to repeat that modest feat after thumping the Tigers 44-18 before last week’s bye.

The Rabbitohs are on a six-match winning streak against the Titans, including a pair of high-scoring victories at Robina in 2021 – 40-30 in Round 7 and 36-6 in Round 22.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS VS MELBOURNE STORM – SATURDAY JUNE 11, 5:30PM, SCG

The Roosters’ rollercoaster season continued in Canberra on Sunday as they fell to a fourth loss in their past seven games while the Storm put their feet up and enjoyed a bye.

Melbourne’s Origin contingent of Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi, Xavier Coates and Harry Grant has been named to play. Nelson Asofa-Solomona also returns but Ryan Papenhuyzen remains out with Nick Meaney doing a decent job in the custodian role.

The Storm are on a four-match winning run against the Roosters, owning the heavyweight rivalry in 2021 with a 20-4 win at home in Round 4 and a 46-0 demolition at Newcastle in Round 16.

BRISBANE BRONCOS VS CANBERRA RAIDERS – SATURDAY JUNE 11, 7:35PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

With Adam Reynolds leading the way, the Broncos have been a revelation this season, riding high on the class and composure of their new No.7 and the brilliance of Kotoni Staggs and Selwyn Cobbo.

The Raiders have recovered from a 2-6 start to win four of their last five – including high-quality upsets of the Sharks, Rabbitohs and Roosters. They showed plenty of resolve to hold off the Roosters 22-16 without marquee duo Josh Papalii and Jack Wighton after letting a 12-point lead slip.

After losing the last six clashes between the clubs, the Raiders have won their last three against the Broncos. Last season’s sole encounter saw the Green Machine romp to a 38-16 victory at home – but the Broncos have won the last five in Brisbane.

WESTS TIGERS VS MANLY SEA EAGLES – SATURDAY JUNE 11, 2:00PM, CAMPBELLTOWN SPORTS STADIUM

A bye in round 13 gave the Tigers a chance to reset and look to better times ahead but the upheaval continued on Tuesday when Michael Maguire departed as coach effective immediately.

Manly snapped a three-match losing streak and edged back up to 10th with an emphatic 44-12 defeat of the hapless Warriors – despite the absence of Daly Cherry-Evans. The Sea Eagles’ pack was utterly dominant with Haumole Olakau’atu the standout, while the spine of Croker, Foran, Schuster and Garrick shone brightly.

Manly registered its third straight win over Wests Tigers via a 36-22 result at home in Round 9. Cherry-Evans was the star that day, along with currently injured Ben Trbojevic and Croker.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS VS PENRITH PANTHERS – SUNDAY JUNE 11, 4:05PM, MCDONALD JONES STADIUM

The Knights are coming off a win in round 12 and a bye in round 13 so they should be refreshed and ready to take the game up to the premiers.

Penrith went about their business in clinical fashion against the Bulldogs and got the job done even without six of their big-name stars on Origin duty.

Then-unbeaten Newcastle showed some spirit in a 38-20 loss to Penrith in Bathurst in Round 3 after having Mitchell Barnett sent off in the first half – but their season has spiralled from that point. The Knights have won only one of their last 11 against the Panthers, who have won four straight at Newcastle.

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS VS CRONULLA SHARKS – SUNDAY JUNE 11, 6:15PM, MORETON DAILY STADIUM

The Warriors were blown off 4 Pines Park by Manly and won’t find life any easier against Craig Fitzgibbon’s Sharks on Sunday.

CANTERBURY BULLDOGS VS PARRAMATTA EELS – MONDAY JUNE 13, 4:00PM, ACCOR STADIUM

Interim Bulldogs coach Mick Potter will welcome back a couple of enforcers in Tevita Pangai jnr and Luke Thompson, two men who’ll be primed to take the fight up to the much vaunted Eels pack.

The 8-4 Eels are starting to couple their giant-killing exploits (away wins over the Storm and Panthers) with a bit of consistency (hard-fought victories over the Sea Eagles and Raiders in their last two). Halves Dylan Brown and Mitch Moses are absolutely humming in a well-oiled Parramatta line-up.

Parramatta has won 10 of its last 12 against Canterbury – including the last four grudge matches in a row. The two 2021 encounters followed a similar script: the Eels prevailed 32-10 in Round 8 and 36-10 in Round 15, with former Bulldog Shaun Lane a try-scorer in both matches.
