PENRITH PANTHERS VS MANLY SEA EAGLES – THURSDAY 10 MARCH, 8:05PM, PENRITH STADIUM

Penrith opened short-priced favourites but with the announcement of Nathan Cleary’s injury we have seen Manly move into favouritism.

Penrith has had the wood on Manly for almost a decade, winning 13 of the teams’ last 16 encounters – including the last five straight. The teams’ two 2021 clashes were in the first eight rounds, with the Panthers cruising to 46-6 and 28-16 victories.

CANBERRA RAIDERS VS CRONULLA SHARKS – FRIDAY 11 MARCH, 6:00PM, GIO STADIUM

Canberra and Cronulla fans walked away from the 2021 season disappointed as both teams failed to make the finals.

Expectations are high in the Shire with ultra-highly-rated rookie coach Craig Fitzgibbon taking the reins and gun Storm duo Dale Finucane – captain on club debut with Wade Graham injured – and Nicho Hynes on board. The jury is out on Matt Moylan as an adequate five-eighth, but fullback Will Kennedy is coming off a breakout season and there is enough firepower out wide and grunt in the middle of the park for the Sharks to expect to play finals footy.

The Raiders are on a six-match winning streak against the Sharks. Last season the Green Machine got up 12-10 at Kogarah and 34-18 on the Gold Coast.

  •    1 unit under 44 total match points @ $1.90 BET NOW

BRISBANE BRONCOS VS SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS – FRIDAY 11 MARCH, 8:05PM, SUNCORP STADIUM
COVID-19 has seen Adam Reynolds ruled out of making his Brisbane Broncos debut against his former South Sydney Rabbitohs cohorts.
The Broncos looked rudderless in trial losses to the Titans and Cowboys, highlighting the need for a linchpin of Reynolds’ calibre. Souths lost both trials, too, against the Cowboys and to the Dragons in the Charity Shield.
Souths have won five of their last six against the Broncos, including a pair of blowouts last season in Sydney (35-6) and Brisbane (46-0).

SYDNEY ROOSTERS VS NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS – SATURDAY 12 MARCH, 3:00PM, SCG

The Roosters will be looking to put an injury-plagued 2021 behind them and bounce into 2022 with a strong win here.

Luke Keary returns to partner Sam Walker in the halves for the first time, while Lindsay Collins is back in a mouth-watering forward pack. Ex-Knights utility Connor Watson starts in the No.9 with Sam Verrills suspended and Billy Smith is named at centre with Joseph Suaalii injured.

The Roosters have won 14 of their last 16 against the Knights, including the last four encounters by margins of 20-plus points. Meanwhile, the Novocastrians haven’t toppled the Tricolours in Sydney since 2009.

  •   3 units Roosters -13.5 @ $2 BET NOW

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS VS ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS – SATURDAY 12 MARCH, 4:30PM, SUNSHINE COAST STADIUM

Both teams will be coming into this with a point to prove after a disappointing 2021.

The Warriors won their sole trial against a below-strength Storm. The Dragons impressed in their first Charity Shield win since 2012.

The Saints have historically dominated the Warriors – leading the head-to-head 22-10 – but the Warriors found their footing in the rivalry with five straight wins from 2018-21. But after gutsy early-season wins in the past two campaigns that featured unprecedented completion rates, the Warriors produced one of the all-time chokes against the Dragons in Round 16 last year.

WESTS TIGERS VS MELBOURNE STORM – SATURDAY 12 MARCH, 7:35PM, COMMBANK STADIUM

The Tigers walk into 2022 as wooden spoon favourites and the draw has not been any help to them with a tough matchup against the Storm here.

One of the NRL’s most extraordinary records – with the Storm winning all 18 of their Round 1 matches under Craig Bellamy – is reason enough to dismiss any notion of a king-sized upset.

  •   4 units Storm -12.5 @ $2 BET NOW

PARRAMATTA EELS VS GOLD COAST TITANS – SUNDAY 13 MARCH, 4:05PM, COMMBANK STADIUM

The Eels look a little thin out wide with Maika Sivo injured and Blake Ferguson leaving, but their elite depth elsewhere sees Nathan Brown and Bryce Cartwright demoted to the reserves – despite the unavailability of suspended Marata Niukore.

Gold Coast snapped a five-year finals drought last year in a vastly-improved season under the impressive Justin Holbrook. But optimism should be tempered by the fact the Titans scraped into eighth with a subpar 10-14 record, while they head into 2022 with an uber-talented but majorly inexperienced spine of Jayden Campbell, AJ Brimson, Toby Sexton and Erin Clark.

Parramatta is on a five-match winning run against Gold Coast, each victory coming by a margin of 16 points or more.

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS VS CANTERBURY BULLDOGS – SUNDAY 13 MARCH, 6:15PM, QUEENSLAND COUNTRY BANK STADIUM

The Bulldogs come into this with one of the best recruitment lists in the league while the Cowboys will be looking to start this season better than they did the last.

The Cowboys have won eight of the teams’ last 10 clashes, including a 30-18 result in Townsville last season after Bulldogs firebrand Jack Hetherington was sent off for a coat-hanger on Valentine Holmes.
