We now know where the WTA Finals will be from 2027 to 2029. According to D’Arcy Maine of ESPN, the women’s tennis tournament will take place at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is the same stadium that hosts the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association.
The WTA Finals are also in the United States in 2026. Earlier this summer the WTA moved the WTA Finals from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Indian Wells
In the WTA Finals, the eight best singles players compete. They are separated into two groups. Last year four players were in the Steffi Graf Group, and four players were in the Serena Williams Group. There are also 16 players who compete in women’s doubles. Last year eight players (four teams) were in the Martina Navratilova Group, and eight additional players (four more teams) were in the Liezer Huber Group.
So far in 2026, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan is the only player who has qualified for the WTA Finals. It has been quite the year so far for Rybakina. She is a two-time major champion (Australian Open and United States Open), and reached number one in the world for the first time in her career, when she beat Qinwen Zheng of China, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 United States Open last week.
The WTA Finals are not the only thing coming to Charlotte. The WTA headquarters are also moving from St. Petersburg, Florida to Charlotte. There was an attempt by Charlotte to get the Western & Southern Open away from Cincinnati in 2023, but the tournament is still in Ohio.
