Warriors power forward Draymond Green suspended one game for a stomp
April 20, 2023
Controversy surrounding Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green of Saginaw, Michigan is continuing. On Tuesday, the NBA suspended Green one game for stomping on the chest of Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis according to Sam Quinn of CBS Sports.
A major reason why the National Basketball Association decided to give a suspension to Green is because he was a “repeat offender.” During the 2016 NBA Finals, Green punched LeBron James in the groin in game four. Due to the fact it was Green’s third flagrant foul of the 2016 NBA Playoffs, there was an automatic one game suspension.
There is no doubt that Green is developing an image that is clearly negative. According to ESPN, he is the only player to be suspended more than once over the last decade in the postseason.
One should recall this is not the first time even this season that Green has been at the center of physical confrontation. Even before the season started, he punched teammate Jordan Poole in practice. Also in 2018-19, Green was seen not getting along with former Warriors superstar Kevin Durant. After an altercation in a game between the Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers, Green was suspended one game for inappropriate language that was considered “detrimental to the team.”
Game three of the first round series is Thursday in Golden State with the Kings leading the best out of seven series two games to none. In the regular season, Green averaged 8.5 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game, and 6.8 assists per game. In the first two games against the Kings, Green has scored 12 points, and had 16 assists, 13 rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot.
Is one game enough? Should it be more or less? Due to Green’s “bad-boy” image, one game may be just right.
