Walker, Sexton on Red Hill hit list as Broncos brace for life after Reynolds
August 5, 2024
The Brisbane Broncos are already looking to the 2026 NRL season when they’ll likely be without veteran halfback Adam Reynolds, with Sam Walker and Toby Sexton their first picks for the role.
Walker and Sexton are among the form halves of the competition this year, with both having the added bonus of being Queenslanders. Neither have suggested they want to leave their clubs, the Roosters and Bulldogs respectively.

Should the Broncos miss out on their top targets, Jonah Pezet (Storm) and Tom Duffy (Cowboys) are also among their recruitment targets, The Courier Mail reported today. The Sporting Base has also heard many at Red Hill want to give Jock Madden or schoolboys star Coby Black a shot at the seven before anything.
Sexton, who is still only 23, is a particular target due to his stellar short-kicking game.
All of the young guns on the Broncos’ radar—Sexton, Walker, and Pezet—are available for formal talks from November, meaning their clubs will have to lock them down before that if they want to ward off the cashed-up Broncos.
The Bulldogs may be the most likely to let their main man go; the Roosters could ill-afford to lose their young gun when James Tedesco is on his way out and Luke Keary is already on the verge of retiring while Pezet is stuck behind Jahrome Hughes and Cameron Munster. Canterbury, meanwhile, have Mitchell Woods coming through the ranks.
Cameron Ciraldo has huge wraps on Sexton though and has worked very closely with him to get him hitting the straps he has in 2024—it wouldn’t surprise this Base writer if the Bulldogs coach responds to media reports by telling Canterbury brass to offer him an extension.

There’s also an outside chance Reynolds plays on, though with Brisbane already prepping for the future the veteran may have to go elsewhere if he wants to keep playing in the NRL beyond next year.
