Vow Masters The Valley

Vow Master made it two wins from as many career starts easily accounting for his rivals at Moonee Valley last night.

The Chris Waller trained gelding came from the rear in what was the softest victory of the night.

Jockey, Michael Walker, had nothing but praise for the three-year-old after his 2.5 length victory over 1000 metres.

“I think he is a serious horse.

“I think he’s got a bright future,” Walker said on the Racing.com broadcast.

According to Walker, the “Quirky” Vow Master has a lot to learn and still hasn’t quite put it all together.

“He’s just a big raw baby – everything he’s doing now, in these two starts, is on raw ability because he doesn’t know what he’s doing,” Walker said.

The son of Written Tycoon ran the fastest last 400 and 200 metre of the meeting, whilst only being bettered by Grandview Avenue (Race 4 955m).

“He’s just done everything now by raw ability.

“I’ll tell you what made the win a little bit better, he was actually feeling the track a little bit,” Walker said.

The gun jockey put in an excellent steer from the rear, coming the widest on the track before Vow Master let down.

“I just had to keep Jamie Mott out because I wanted something to pull me into the race.

“As soon as I kept Jamie out, I came to the three deep and followed him and come off the back,” Walker said.

There was a moment of worry for Walker when cornering when his ride didn’t quite handle the tight Moonee Valley turn.

“I still got away with him on the corner a little bit.

“He travelled beautifully today,” Walker said.

The sky is the limit for this potential star and even Michael Walker is none the wiser to where this “untapped” gelding will get to.

“He’s a horse I keep scratching my head at. I think when you’ve got a horse that is untapped, you can’t really pick a distance, what is going to be his best.

“Right now, he’s giving me the feel of a run on sprinter.

“Chris Waller, as we know, is an amazing trainer and he can do amazing things – wouldn’t surprise me if he got him out to 2000 metres,” Walker said.
