Victor Wembanyama becomes fourth youngest player to score 50 points in a game
November 15, 2024
We all know that San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama of Le Chesnay, France is a great basketball player. However on Wednesday night, Wembanyama had an eyebrow raising performance for the ages. Around the same time Milwaukee Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was scoring 59 points in a 127-120 win over the Detroit Pistons, Wembanyama was scoring 50 points for the San Antonio Spurs in a 139-130 win over the Washington Wizards.
Prior to Wednesday, only one other player scored 50 points in game this season. That was Paolo Banchero of Seattle, Washington, who scored 50 points in a 119-115 Orlando Magic win over the Indiana Pacers on October 28.
In the Spurs win over the Wizards, Wembanyama scored 50 points for the first time in his career. He made a career-high 18 field goals, and a career-high eight three-pointers. Wembanyama also made six free throws, and had six rebounds, three blocks, two assists, one steal, and was a +13.
What was also notable of Wembanyama’s achievement was the fact he was the fourth youngest player to score 50 points in a game. He accomplished the feat at 20 years and 314 days old. The only three NBA players younger than Webanyama who have scored 50 points or more in a game are Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings of Compton, California (55 points in a 129-125 Bucks win over the Golden State Warriors on November 14, 2009 at 20 years and 52 days), Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard LeBron James of Akron, Ohio (56 points in a 105-98 Cavaliers loss to the Toronto Raptors on March 20, 2005 at 20 years and 80 days), and Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker of Grand Rapids, Michigan (70 points in a 130-120 Suns loss to the Boston Celtics on March 24, 2017). With the win, the Spurs improve to .500, and are at six wins and six losses after 12 games.
