United States win 2025 United Cup

The United States have won the 2025 United Cup. This is the second time the Americans have won the international mixed team tennis tournament as they also won in 2023.
In the final from Sydney, the United States beat Poland two matches to none. In the women’s singles match, Coco Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek, 6-4, 6-4. Then Taylor Fritz beat Hubert Hurkacz 6-4. 5-7, 7-6.
The Americans went undefeated throughout the event. They beat Croatia and Canada in their two group A matches. They then beat China in the quarterfinals and the Czech Republic in the semifinals. The United States only lost one match the entire week. In Group A action, Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada defeated Fritz 4-6, 7-5. 6-3.
There were two more ATP events this past week. Alexandre Muller of France beat Kei Nishikori of Japan in the final of the Hong Kong Open. This was Muller’s first ATP title, who is now 56th in the world. For Nishikori, who was the 2014 United States Open finalist, this was his 27th ATP final, but his first in six years. Nishikori’s last final was in Brisbane leading up to the 2019 Australian Open, where he beat Daniil Medvedev of Russia, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Then at the Brisbane International, Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic beat Reilly Opelka of the United States 4-1 as Opelka withdrew from the event due to a back injury.
Meanwhile on the WTA Tour, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus beat Polina Kudermetova of Russia in the final of Brisbane, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Then in Auckland, Naomi Osaka of Japan withdrew from the final with an abdominal injury against Clara Tauson of Denmark. Osaka actually won the first set 6-4.
