Tuivasa-Sheck to explore options in Sydney as he looks to extend NRL career

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is looking into a Sydney return, with the star Warriors veteran eager to play on in the NRL beyond his current contract after his plans with R360 collapsed late last year.

“RTS” had been expecting to move to the rebel rugby competition once his $650,000-a-year deal wrapped up at the end of this NRL season.

With R360 all but dead in the water, however, the Kiwi superstar has decided to play on in the NRL if he can find a deal. That won’t be with the Warriors at the very least, though, after the New Zealand club signed Melbourne winger Will Warbrick to bolster their backline from 2027 onward.

Instead, Tuivasa-Sheck is lining up a Sydney return; his preference is to go back to the New South Wales capital city, after he spent his early rugby league years — between 2012 and 2015 — playing for the Roosters.

Code Sport has reported that a handful of clubs have already expressed an interest in the 32-year-old and would be eager to sign him for next year.

There’s been no clubs formally linked to the New Zealand international yet, but this Sporting Base writer understands the Parramatta Eels, St George Illawarra Dragons, and Manly Sea Eagles have been making inquiries about off-contract centres and wingers in the wider player market recently.

Tuivasa-Sheck has played 234 games and scored 75 tries across 13 seasons in rugby league, with those numbers quite good considering he played several seasons in Super Rugby after changing to the 15-man code.

This week, “RTS” has been named in the No.5 jumper against the Knights.
