Top five storylines from Week 16 of the 2021 NFL season

There is only two more weeks left to the 2021 NFL regular season. This past weekend, there were some exhilarating performances. Here are the top five storylines from Week 16.

5) Kansas City Chiefs have won eight in a row.

It seems like a distant memory when people were wondering what is wrong with the Kansas City Chiefs. After only winning three of their first seven games, the Chiefs have been spectacular offensively over the last two months, as they have won eight straight. On Sunday, the Chiefs clobbered the Pittsburgh Steelers 36-10. The Chiefs were led offensively by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who completed 23 of 30 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns. With the win, the Chiefs clinched the AFC West.

4) Dak Prescott makes NFL history.

In the Dallas Cowboys’ 56-14 win over the Washington Football Team, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott became the first player in NFL history to throw a TD pass to a wide receiver, running back, tight end, and offensive lineman in the same game. Prescott completed 28 of 39 passes for 330 yards. Meanwhile, the 56 points Dallas scored Sunday night was the most points a NFL team has scored this season.

Ironically, Dallas had already clinched the NFC East due to the fact the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Denver Broncos 17-13. You may find it strange that a result from the AFC impacted the standings in the NFC East, however a Vegas win weakened the Philadelphia Eagles’ strength of schedule, and gave Dallas the tiebreaker in case the Cowboys and Eagles were deadlocked at the end of the year.

3) Antonio Brown makes NFL history.

After being shutout by the New Orleans Saints in Week 15, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got everything back on track in Week 16 with a dominant 32-6 win over the Carolina Panthers. It was a historic game for Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who had 10 catches for 101 yards. In the process, Brown set the NFL record for most games with 10 or more catches in NFL history with 23. Brown broke the record previously set by Andre Johnson of the Houston Texans, who had 22 games with 10 or more catches. With the win, the Buccaneers clinch the NFC South with a record of 11 wins and four losses.

2) Aaron Rodgers makes Packers history.

A week after tying Brett Favre’s record for the most touchdown passes in Packers’ history, Aaron Rodgers moved to number one all by himself. His 11-yard touchdown pass to Allen Lazard, gave Rodgers 443 touchdown passes with the Cheeseheads. He added two more TD passes to his favourite target, Davante Adams, in a 24-22 Packers win over the Cleveland Browns.

1) Joe Burrow almost makes NFL history.

In the Cincinnati Bengals’ 41-21 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, it was simply a phenomenal game for Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow. He had 525 passing yards, a Bengals’ franchise record and the fourth most passing yards in a single game in NFL history. Norm Van Brocklin still has the NFL record for most passing yards in a game with 554 in a 54-14 Los Angeles Rams win over the New York Yanks on September 28, 1951. The previous Bengals record for most passing yards in a game belonged to Boomer Esiason, who had 490 yards, in a 34-31 Bengals win over the Los Angeles Rams on October 7, 1990.
